I created this craft after I got tired of my stack of un-read books sitting on my nightstand. I wanted something more attractive to keep them in, while also still having them near so I could grab a book whenever. What I created was the perfect way to organize them, yet also keep them on my nightstand in cute way!
What You’ll Need:
• Wood crate or box (I used a 8” x 7.5” crate)
• Plastic, wood, or paper letters
• Acrylic paint
• Glitter acrylic paint
• Patterned paper (I used one 12” x 12” page)
• Tacky glue
• Ruler
• Paintbrush
Directions:
1. Paint the wood with the acrylic paint. A few coats may be necessary to fully cover the area. Allow the paint to dry.
2. Measure the area you want the patterned paper to show. This will depend what type of crate or box you purchased, but for my crate I chose to put the paper on the sections on the side of the crate.
3. After measuring, cut the paper to size. Then, using a paintbrush, brush acrylic glue behind the paper. Place on the crate and rub to secure. Allow time for the glue to dry after all sections have been attached.
4. Brush the glitter paint over the entire crate. This will also put a sealer over the top of the paper. Allow time to dry again.
5. Attach whatever letters you desire. I spelled the words “books” out in plastic letters I purchased at Michael’s craft store. Scrabble letters or painted wood letters would also look really nice. Paper letters could be attached before applying the glitter paint layer as well.
