One thing I like about Coldplay is that they always manage to switch their sound up from album to album. Their new album, “Ghost Stories”, is a far departure from their previous effort, “Mylo Xyloto”, which may have been Coldplay’s most peppy and bright album. It featured many upbeat and catchy songs, but while this new album may have a slower pace, the songs seem more personal and are very peaceful.
The softer sounds on “Ghost Stories” are a bit more comparable to Coldplay’s earlier albums and more mellow sounds. Lyrics in songs like “Ink”, “True Love”, and “Another’s Arms” may make you think about a certain “conscious uncoupling” but the simplicity in these songs are electric.
While the album is a bit too short, the song “A Sky Full of Stars” brings the mix to a thumping end. I am curious what Coldplay will bring to the table in a few years. Whether they head in another new direction or continue down the road “Ghost Stories” displays, I will be there to buy my copy.
