This project is a great way to add some color to a room. I had some scraps of felt that I didn’t have much use for, but came up with a unique piece that could be adapted to match many color schemes. The work is a bit time consuming, but the final product is very eye-catching!
What You’ll Need:
• Pillow and pillow cover (I used 12” x 12”)
• Felt pieces (many colors)
• Scissors
• Needle
• Embroidery floss
• Tacky glue
• Paintbrush
• (optional) Buttons or other accessories
Directions:
1. Cut the felt into shapes, creating a few different sizes. I chose to cut the pieces into triangle shapes because I thought this shape would be the easiest to cut out consistently. I cut them into three sizes and used five different colors.
2. Next, lay out your pieces to create a design on the pillow cover. I laid the shapes in various directions and evenly spread out each size.
3. This step is optional, but if you want to add buttons or another type of accessory on certain pieces, now would be the time to attach them. For my pillow, I had little felt flowers that I purchased. I hand-sewed one flower onto each of the biggest sized triangles.
4. Once you have your design chosen, lightly brush the backs of each piece with tacky glue to gently attach to the pillow cover. Brushing the glue will make sure the glue won’t bleed through the felt as easily. Allow the glue to dry. Using the glue will allow you to keep your design secure as you sew around each piece. Since there are so many pieces, using pins would make it much more difficult.
5. After the glue is dry, use the embroidery floss and needle to sew a straight stitch around each piece. Make sure to knot each securely. This step will be time consuming, but the result will be fantastic!
6. Once all the pieces are attached, place a pillow in the pillow cover and enjoy your new colorful piece!
