With Valentine’s Day this week, I thought I would share a cookie that I made that was the perfect way to get my chocolate fix. I was at Target and became overwhelmed by all the delicious Valentine candies (cherry, red velvet and strawberry-flavored treats galore!) but spotted Dove’s Valentine Heart Promises candy. I bought a package of their milk chocolate strawberry crème swirl chocolate hearts. They were so creamy and smooth, and I decided to put some cookies together. I used this peanut butter cookie recipe (with a few changes) and then placed the Dove chocolates in the cookie right after they baked. The tastes of strawberries, chocolate and peanut butter made me think of fondue!
Pan: Cookie sheet
Oven prep: Bake at 350˚
What You’ll Need:
• 1 cup creamy peanut butter
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1egg
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 12-15 Dove chocolate hearts
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350˚.
2. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
3. In a large bowl, combine the peanut butter, sugar, egg, and salt. Mix well until fully combined and a dough is formed.
4. Roll the the dough into approximately 1 inch balls. Place onto the cookie sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each cookie.
5. Using the bottom of a glass, lightly flatten the dough balls.
6. Place the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, keeping an eye on them.
7. While the cookies are baking, prepare the chocolates by unwrapping them.
8. Remove the pan from the oven. Allow the cookies to briefly cool for a minute or two before pressing your chocolates into the center of each cookie. They will begin to crack on the sides as you push down.
9. Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes before transferring them. Allow them to cool completely before storing them. The chocolate will be warm and gooey, so it will need time to harden (but you will probably want to eat one or two while they are still melty!)
