Jewelry Tray

I put together this really easy jewelry tray after my mom asked me to make her something to put her necklaces on so they could be safe and easy to access. She wanted the tray to have the color red on it, to match her room. So I put this project together, and used a bit of felt so the jewelry would have a soft area to rest on. I struggled a bit with the color combination (at the craft store I kept walking back and fourth to the felt aisle and the paint aisle trying to come up with something that would work with the colors of her room) but I think the finished product turned out pretty well!

What you’ll need:
• Wood tray (I got a wood plaque for about $5 at Michael’s Craft Store that worked well as a tray)
• Acrylic paint
• 1 piece of felt (I chose one with a textured design)
• Paintbrush
• Scissor
• Glue
• Sharpie/Ruler

Directions:

1. Decide on your paint colors. I ended up choosing a glossy acrylic red as the main color. I then coated the entire tray with it. After it dried, I added one more coat.

2. I then covered the tray with one coat of a teal glitter acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry overnight.

3. After everything is completely dry, turn your tray over and use it as a guide to decide how much you need to trim the felt.

4. Using a Sharpie and a ruler, draw straight lines on the felt. Follow the lines with a scissor and cut the felt so it will fit inside the tray.

5. Squeeze glue onto the bottom of the tray and use a paintbrush to smooth the glue around. Place the felt over the glue and press it flat. Let the glue completely dry.

6. To finish everything off, I used a metallic brown paint (which matched the felt I used) to add a few polka dots as an added decoration. You could additionally add gems, buttons, use stencils, etc. to add a bit more flair.

7. Once everything is completely dry, keep your jewelry stored in your tray!

Here are some photos of the final product:
