Music Review: Marina and the Diamond's Froot

With Marina and the Diamonds previous two albums “The Family Jewels” and “Electra Heart,” she has become one of my favorite musicians because of her distinctly catchy tunes and individual style. I still haven’t grown tired of her older music, and many of her songs are continually on my “recently played” list on my iPod. Needless to say, I was excited to finally have new music from her, with the perfect blend of danceable pop and thought-provoking lyrics that I like so much.

The new album’s title track “Froot” was released as the first single, and while it wasn’t what I was expecting or thought I was waiting for, with a few more listens it became my favorite tune of the year so far. Ultimately, Marina’s third album “Froot” is a slightly different direction for the Welsh singer, but she still doesn’t lose the unique charm her other albums have. The album feels a little more personal and doesn’t necessarily have songs that are considered “radio friendly,” but her talents are more than deserving of more attention and recognition. With the quirky album name, her always original style and memorable vocals, the album feels like a perfect pop album. For me, this album features tracks that will once again be on repeat until her next album arrives.

Must-hear tracks:
Froot
I’m a Ruin
Blue
Weeds
Savages
