I have been on a bit of a crafting dry spell. I haven’t really had any new ideas, nor have I wanted to make gifts for anyone or needed to come up with a solution for something in my room. During the past few weeks though, a small pile has formed on my desk of little random objects. These objects are things that I felt were a shame to throw away, but didn’t have any use for. So I decided to wrack my brain and attempt to turn them into something new and cute. So far I have created three little crafts and today I am sharing my first, right in time for Easter!
The random object I used was…an empty chocolate egg container!
If you’ve ever managed to have your hands on a Kinder Surprise Egg, this container is similar to that. If you aren’t familiar, Kinder Surprise Eggs are from an Italian brand. The egg features milk chocolate on the outside and white chocolate on the inside, and when cracked open, there is a bright yellow plastic container containing a toy. The eggs are banned in the United States because of a (silly) ban on candies with embedded toys, but every so often a somewhat similar candy pops up here. This Easter season at Target, I found one that was pretty similar in idea. These eggs came in a box though, with the chocolate eggs on one side and a surprise toy in a capsule on the other side of the box. They had them in Star Wars, Avengers, and (apparently, but never found in my town) Frozen themes.

The capsules used for this project
So with the little capsule, I decided to create an Easter bunny message holder! This project would work on other little canisters or just a regular plastic Easter egg as well, but I do quite like the shape of the capsules from chocolate eggs. The materials and directions are pretty much up to whatever you have available and what type of bunny you want, but here is how I did mine.
What You’ll Need:
• Plastic capsule/easter egg
• Felt in a few colors (for ears, etc.)
• Gems/buttons/pom poms/ribbon (for nose, tail, bow tie etc.)
• Googly Eyes
• Glue
• Scissors
• Paper/candy (to fill in side)
Directions:
1. I began by cutting white felt into ear shapes (I did a rectangle, with a pointed edge). I then cut some pink felt into a skinnier rectangle, to act as the “inside” of the ears. I then glued the pink piece on top of the white and pressed securely.
2. From the same felt colors, I cut out a bow tie shape. To do this I cut my pink felt into a piece that was similar to two connected triangles, followed by a small rectangle in the white felt to act as the center of the bow. I then glued the two pieces together.
3. I then began gluing everything onto the capsule! I started with the ears and placed them one by one on the line where the capsule opened (remember to have the inside of the ears facing forward.) I then glued a felt flower that acted as as tail. I held down both the ears and the tail for a few seconds each.
4. Next, I worked on the front. Since the glue was still fresh on the back, I had to be careful to not smudge anything. On the top part of the capsule, I created the bunny’s face by gluing two googly eyes first, followed by a pink gem nose right underneath. Then on the lower half of the capsule, I glued the bow tie. Then I set it aside to dry.
5. To finish the project, I typed up a little Easter message and added a few candies (which were in the shape of carrots!) to fill the bunny up.
Here are some photos of the final product:

While I was doing this whole project on a bit of a whim with no planning, it ended up being quite a quick and easy project. Not only was I able to use crafting items I had around the house, but it acted as a great way to reuse something random! Additionally, I think this could be easily adapted to make other animals as well.
