A few months ago a I did an Ulta Lip Haul, focusing on some lip products I picked up. Today, I have another installment, with a variety of items. I went to Ulta in the hopes of finding some good lip products for the fall season coming up, and ended up finding quite a few good choices (with many on clearance!).
Ulta Brilliant Color Lip Gloss in #01, #05, and #09
I would have never tried this lipgloss had it not been so cheap, but at such a great price, I figured it was worth a shot. I noticed them at the front as I got in line at the checkouts, and hurriedly made the decision to grab some and just took a few colors that looked okay as quickly as I could so I did not hold the line up. I said in my last Ulta Lip Haul that I wasn’t too crazy about some of the Ulta brand items I have tried, and think they are too expensive for what you get. I was very pleasantly surprised with these though!
Price: $8.00 (but got for around $.80 each after additional 1/2 off clearance, $3.50 of $15 coupon, and ULTA points).
Tube: The tube is pretty basic, but doesn’t look like it will peel or get banged up too easily, which is a plus. The cap isn’t made of cheap plastic, which should help it keep in shape well. It is a bit too large to keep in your pocket though. The applicator is average, but I did find that each of the colors required 3-4 dips into the tube to really get a good amount on the lips.
Scent: There is a slight sweet scent, similar to a chemical-vanilla mixture. It’s not overly pleasant, but didn’t bother me once on the lips.
Texture: With first swipe, I was worried this was going to be too sticky, but once applied, it was very nice on my lips.
Color: I took the stickers and packaging off before realizing that was the only spot that had the actual color names of the glosses, but I believe these colors were called Toast (the reddish color), Brulee (the tannish color), and Sprinkles (the nude-toned color).
#1 Brulee
#5 Spice
#9 Sprinkles
Overall: I was quite pleased with these! I’m not quite sure the “Brulee” color works great on me, but I have been using the “Toast” color quite a bit. For me, this also stays on quite well. Much better than most lip glosses I have had over the years. I was very impressed that my lips still had that red glossiness of “Toast” even after eating a meal.
I have had a couple of these NYX butter glosses before and liked them. I have tried a few browns (in “Praline” and “Ginger Snap” ) as well as a summery orange (called “Cherry Cheese Cake”). I just threw out the two browns after almost using them up (the remaining gloss at the bottom of the container was getting a bit sticky), so I thought I would try a new color for fall. I have noticed that for the most part, these do require a mirror to get a smooth, not streaky look, meaning they aren’t just something you can quick swipe on without really looking.
Price: $4.99
Tube: The plastic tube is a great size, not too big, so you can easily slip it in your bag or even in your pocket. The plastic is sturdy and doesn’t scratch easily. The applicator is normal, but the formula comes out very easily.
Scent: There is a nice, sweet smell that smells like a vanilla cake.
Texture: The texture is very buttery, like the name suggests, and smooth. The formula is a little more transparent, which requires some care when applying it.
Color: This “Cranberry Biscotti” color is so pretty! I don’t know if I quite pull it off that well, but I really think it is great blend of purple and brown, which will be fun to wear in the upcoming months!
Overall: Something silly I really like about these butter glosses are the food-themed names for them. Even though they don’t smell like those names, they do have a pleasant smell and texture. The color selection is also pretty diverse. They don’t stay on for too long though, so reapplying is defiantly necessary. I still think they are a good product at a good price.
NYX High Voltage Lipstick in #05 (Flutter Kisses):
This is something I would have considered buying had it not been on clearance, because I have been a fan of all the NYX products I have tried. Besides the butter gloss that I already mentioned, I have also tried a nail polish, eyeshadow primer, and a regular round case lipstick. All of which, I have liked. This being on clearance though made me serious about trying it. Again, there was a wide variety of colors, but all weren’t available anymore.
Price: $5.99 (on clearance for $2.99)
Tube: The tube is skinny and easily twists to push the lipstick up. The tube’s cap is a pretty thin plastic though, which might easily crack the more times it is taken on and off.
Scent: There is a very slight hint of something sweet, like a soft sugar.
Texture: The texture is soft, and goes on more smooth than most regular lipsticks. The formula isn’t too drying, but obviously doesn’t provide too much moisture, being that it is a lipstick. I easily feel bothered if my lips are too dry, and this didn’t bother me to the point where I felt like I needed to add something on top of it.
Color: I like that this color is a pinkish nude/brown. It is really pretty and goes with a lot. This does have a high color payoff, and easily goes on with just a few swipes to work the color up. I like that it is a thin/skinny stick, which makes it a bit easier to apply on the lips.
Overall: I quite like this! For me, the color lasts quite a while on the lips. After eating, it does need a slight reapply, but I was impressed overall with the formula and color payoff. I’m assuming from the clearance of most of the colors at Ulta that this is a product that is being phased out. I took a peak at the NYX website and they were also on clearance there, with only a few colors left. This gives me more confidence to try some of NYX’s other lipsticks and lip creams though.
I’ve been wanting to try something from the Rimmel London Kate Moss Collection for a while, but have mostly only found bright reds in stock. I don’t believe this is a new collection, but I have not seen this large selection of nude shades until now. I wanted something more brown than tan or apricot skin-toned, and went with the darkest shade.
Price: $5.49
Tube: The tube is a nice peachy nude color with the “Kate” signature at the top printed in white. It is quite simple, but really pretty. It is plastic, but seems secure enough to not crack or scratch too easily.
Scent: I really like the scent on this one! I can’t quite place what it is, bit it is almost a bit flowery or slightly fruity.
Texture: The texture isn’t quite as smooth or silly as the NYX High Voltage Lipstick, meaning it doesn’t really feel very moisturizing on the lips. I think I will be swiping a bit of clear gloss on the top to add some moisture whenever I wear this.
Color: The color is really pretty and builds into a nice color easily. When looking at the stick itself, it has a slight pink/purple sheen when you look closely. It is a great brown, which is what I was looking for the most for fall!
Overall: I really like this color, it might me my favorite of the ones I purchased. My mom also got one of these in the same color! Lipsticks last me a very long time, so I will probably be using this for quite a while, but I will look at more from this line in the future!
Bonus Item:
I love Badger Balm. The past few times I have been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant I have picked up a small tube. I also love mint balms, and almost always choose mint if it is an option. Mint just feels so refreshing, clean, and light. The last Badger Balm I got was a small tube and the flavor was “Highlander Mint.” The mint was more on the spearmint side (or as I refer to it, the “green mint”), which can sometimes give me a slight headache for some reason. I tend to go for more cool mint/peppermint or “blue mint” flavor, which never agitates me. I was at Bed, Bath, Beyond with my mom, and she was getting a couple of items. We needed a few more dollars worth of something in order to use our coupon, and so I moseyed around and gasped when I saw the Badger Balms!
Price: $4.99
Tube: The tube is larger than a normal lip balm, and has a sturdy click twist at the bottom to push the formula up.
Scent: The minty scent is so energizing! It gives a nice cooling sensation.
Texture: The butter is very smooth, and leaves a soft shine on the lips. The formula is very soft though, which makes it easily get smushed when applying it, making the top of the stick a bit lumpy, which is its only problem for me with this product.
Color: There is no color, but the shine it gives the lips a little something.
Overall: I have been bringing this with me everywhere, to use in between the other products I bought or when I am relaxing at home. It lasts a long time on my lips and is so refreshing to put on!
After trying all of these, I went back and bought one more Brilliant Color Lip Gloss in #04 (called “Spice”) and NYX High Voltage Lipstick in #12 (called “Dirty Talk”). Both were such a good deal, and I figured I better get them before they were gone. I ended up getting the last of two lip glosses! The lipstick was very picked over as well, but the color I chose wasn’t on clearance the last time I was there. They had a whole row of that color, so I think they must have very recently been put there. Now, I should be very well stocked (and my lips very well covered) for many months!
