2016 Christmas Decor and Holiday Sweater Haul

With Christmas Day tomorrow, I’m already starting to feel a little bummed that it will all soon be over for another year. I have realized during the past few years that my personal favorite part of Christmas is the decorations. During no other time of the year do I get excited to wake up and go into the living room each morning to see the Christmas tree sitting there, or look forward to the evenings when we can turn on and enjoy the sparkling lights. It’s just a special feeling that comes with Christmastime and each year I enjoy picking out a few new decorations and adding a few new ornaments to the tree. Besides our own home, everywhere you go, whether it is driving around neighborhood, strolling through shopping areas, or traveling on city streets, the decorations are enjoyable to see (except for those inflatable decorations, my mom does not appreciate those as they are often deflated. haha). The decorations even make me feel a little more connected to the various people in the community and worldwide as everyone comes together to do their own Christmas traditions.

Although I am already dreading taking down the decorations, I am looking forward to something new that my mom and I have been planning, which is that we are going to decorate for the winter months. We both think this will help cheer us up during the after-Christmas sadness that comes, as well as when the hardest part of winter arrives and there isn’t as much to look forward too. Whenever we take down our Christmas tree and decor, we always feel so sad and the living room feels so empty without everything. We are going with a silver, blue, and white theme, which I think will be a little bit whimsical. Slowly we have been buying a few bits here and there when we find them in the holiday decor section. We decorated quite a bit for fall this year as well, which we really enjoyed, and were inspired to keep decorating more for the other upcoming seasons.

Here is how we decorated for this Christmas season!

For the past two years I have been saying that I want a proper Christmas sweater, but have failed both years to find one that I both really like and is affordable. I’m all for “ugly” Christmas sweaters, but I also want it to be cute and wearable, and I had trouble finding one that really suited what I wanted. Some sweaters have somewhat creepy characters, have too much going on them (which then might fall off), or just don’t look like great quality for the price. I’m picky about sweater materials more than any other clothing item, since I think many tend to get icky even after one wear. I’m more of a sweatshirt person and ended up finding a couple sweaters that seemed a bit more up my alley and I will be able to wear in future years as well. I would like to start a tradition where I buy one new Christmas sweater a year. This year I made up for lost time and wound up with three new festive sweaters and wanted to share what I found. For the past few weeks I have been trying to get good wear out of them before I have to think about putting them away for next year (or maybe I won’t…). My favorite one is the Ho Ho Metallic Deer Sweatshirt. The metallic is simple and not overly flashy, but is still really fun and festive. Plus it goes with any type of pants!
