With the release of Disney’s live action Beauty & the Beast this spring, I accumulated a collection of items related to the film. The animated Beauty & the Beast has been in my top favorite Disney films since I was a little girl, and I always feel an extra connection to it because it came out the year I was born. My middle name is “Rose,” so I also loved the enchanted rose. For many years, I didn’t feel like you could find much merchandise related to it. With the new film though, I have seen a bit of a resurgence of Belle products. In addition to the French-set fairy tale, I also found a few other awesome Disney-related items to add to my collection (featuring a few of my other all-time favorite characters)!
Stained Glass Rose Crossbody: $22.90 (received additional 30% off)
Purchased online through Hot Topic
I bought this purse in March and have been using it ever since. I was attracted to it because of the round shape, something I’ve never had in a purse. I also like the rose graphic, because the stained glass is such a memorable part of the animated film. For some reason, I have received so many compliments on this bag when I have been out, and always from people who are older than me. I’m not sure if many recognized it as Beauty & the Beast, but I have had people also ask where it is from. I was a little worried the purse wouldn’t be the best quality, but so far it has held up very well, especially for the price. The material has not scratched or cracked, and the graphic is still bright.
Belle’s Library Book: $8.38 (list price $12.99)
Purchased online through Amazon
Themed around the live-action movie, this cute little book features quotes from Belle’s favorite books in her library, including little notes from her perspective. I love the little doodles throughout and find it just a charming little read. I also like the yellow cover, which goes perfectly with Belle’s famous yellow gown. I do find that books can be a little iffy when ordering from Amazon, because they can get a little bent up. For a general paper back book, I don’t really mind, but for a book like this that I keep on my book shelf, I like it in perfect condition if possible. This came with a few blemishes on the binding and cover, which I wasn’t super thrilled about. I now like to think that it looks worn because of Belle’s love of reading and writing in it over and over.
Beauty & the Beast Mystery Minis: $8.90 each (buy one, get one 30% off)
Purchased at Hot Topic
This ended up being a very successful blind box opening for me, because I really only wanted a Belle and Beast figure. I had a feeling I chose a Beast correctly, because of how heavy the box was. For Belle, I just chose a box randomly that wasn’t as heavy as the Beast, but didn’t bet on having much luck. When I pulled Belle out, I was truly shocked! I especially love this version of her, which is village Belle holding her book. Both of the figures ended up being Hot Topic exclusives, which was also exciting to luck out with. I think these are so cute (and go perfectly with my other Disney Mystery minis) and the detailing is quite nice, especially on the Beast’s blue outfit. The paint job was nice on my figures too, which is always a plus since they don’t always look perfect.
Beauty & the Beast Round Rose Sunglasses: $14.90
Purchased at Hot Topic
These are probably my favorite sunglasses ever because of the yellow color and the little roses. My favorite color to wear is yellow, which doesn’t seem to be a super popular choice, but I’ve always been fond of it. I love that these are unique, but remain pretty simple in terms of the design and frame. The glasses are also subtly Disney, which is great for those who don’t want a huge graphic or word on everything. When I bought them, the employee working told me she wasn’t a Disney fan, but had bought these glasses because she liked them so much. The mirror reflective lenses are a fun touch and I adore the tiny roses all over the frame. The quality seems nice and they fit comfortably on my face as well.
Beauty & the Beast VHS Journal: $14.99 (received 20% off)
Purchased through the Shop Disney Parks App
This is a Disney Parks item that I couldn’t pass up! The VHS theming is so clever and fun. It really brings me back to when I would watch my Disney VHS movies all the time. The feel of opening the case and the smell of the plastic was so distinct (as well as rewinding the movie at the end of each viewing!). I love that this journal has both grid and lined pages, and the VHS image on the first and last page of the book is a great touch. They also have the same product with Aladdin and The Lion King covers. It was a touch choice deciding which one to get, but I went with Beauty & the Beast. I still have all of my real Disney VHS movies, including this one. I hope that they continue to try out some more nostalgic and unique items like this at the Disney Parks.
Princess Cameo Pins: $14.99 (received 20% off)
Purchased through the Shop Disney Parks App
I really think these might be my favorite Disney pins I own, and I lucked out getting two of my favorite options in the set. This was a pretty fool-proof group of choices, but I felt that some of the princesses are more recognizable than others (with the purple Rapunzel being the most difficult to identify). Belle and Snow White really pop for me because of the yellow and red colors. I love the simple design of the silhouettes and the glitter background. I also really like the symbols represented on the borders, with a rose on Belle and an apple on Snow White.
Finding Dory Cosmetic Bag: $1.75 (found in 80% off clearance section)
Purchased at Target
This was a random find I discovered near some clearance Valentine’s Day and Easter candy at Target. There was a pile of about four of these on one of the shelves, and at first I wasn’t sure if they belonged there. There was no price listed, so I took one and price checked it nearby, and was delighted to see how cheap it was. I have a few other little Disney cosmetic bags from this SOHO brand that I also got on clearance at Walgreens a few years ago. I use them all the time, so I was happy to add this to my collection. The blue with silver detailing looks really nice together, and the graphic is adorable (plus it features Marlin, my personal favorite character). I especially love the Dory pattern inside!
Powerline World Tour Shirt: $20.90 (received 20% off)
Purchased online through Hot Topic
I don’t think I have every purchased a shirt so quickly in my life, until this one came along. A Goofy Movie is one of my top favorite movies of my life, going back to when I was about four years old. The soundtrack is my most played album in my iTunes account to this day. I haven’t seen any merchandise with this movie on ever since I was a child, so I had to get this shirt. It is quite cleverly made to look like a t-shirt you would purchase at a concert. This concert being Powerline, the dog superstar that Max admired in the film (and danced on stage with his dad, Goofy in the climax of the film). Although Powerline wasn’t a real artist, he was one of my favorite musicians growing up, and I love having this shirt from his “world tour.”
Ratatouille Funko Pops!: $12.50 each (received 30% off)
Purchased online through Hot Topic
I have been looking forward to these for a long time, and was so excited to finally get my hands on them. Along with Remi and his brother Emile, Alfredo Linguini is also available in Pop! form. For some reason the scale of him next to these somewhat life-size rats throws me off, so I decided to pass on him for now. These are both painted well, each with expressions that match their personality. I also love the small accessories they have with a chef hat for Remi and a hunk of cheese for Emile. I have this adorable duo on my window ledge, and they are currently my favorite Funko Pops! I own.
Bonus Item:
The Art of Big Hero 6 Book: $3.00 (found on clearance cart)
Purchased at TJ Maxx
After putting this list together, I ended up finding an additional item that I couldn’t pass up including. These art books have been created for a few years now whenever there is a new Disney or Pixar animated film released, and I have wanted quite a few of them. The books show the process of the animated film, including sketches, story development, character design, etc. They usually have a list price of $40, but you can typically find them online closer to about $25 to $30. Since that is still pretty expensive though, I have yet to purchase any, until I found this steal at TJ Maxx! Two of these books were on a cart with just a few other very random items. The clearance sticker had about 5 other stickers underneath it, showing that it had been discounted many times. I couldn’t believe my luck finding it, and excitedly rushed to purchase it. These books are always shrink wrapped closed, which is fortunate since they are quite nice and if people were able to open it up over and over in the shops, they could quickly become damaged. This meant that the book was still in perfect condition, despite the fact that no one seemed to want to purchase them where they got to the point of costing only $3. I was pretty tickled the film it focused on was Big Hero 6, because that it one of my favorite films in recent years. I have yet to fully read the book from beginning to end, but I love paging through it and seeing how they developed San Fransokyo and the creative process behind the character creation. I think I may have to add another one of these books to my Christmas list this year!
