This winter has been surprisingly mellow so far in North Dakota, with a dry Christmas and no snow piles to be found. Before I moved to North Dakota, I had only seen snow a few times and thought it was magical. I couldn’t wait to put on some warm mittens and test out my snowman and snow angel skills. After I had dealt with a few of the harsh winters though, the snow lost some of it’s magic (especially when I had to shovel at 5:00 in the morning, prayed I wouldn’t slip as I walked to school, and saw just how dirty and slushy it gets in the spring.) Needless to say, I find the snow’s slow return very welcome, but know it won’t last forever. I can’t deny that the first real snowfall is always quite beautiful though, and a few years ago we had the perfect snow where it sticks to the branches and makes you feel like you stepped into a true winter wonderland.
