Strawberry Peanut M&M Taste Test

I wanted to pick up these new Limited Edition Strawberry Peanut M&Ms as soon as I saw them because I had tried the “Vote For Your Favorite Peanut Contest” last year. My mind was imaging somewhat of a peanut butter and jelly taste, because of the combination of peanut and strawberry. The chocolate was the factor I wasn’t sure would fit in, or figured it would possibly mask some of the flavor.

Opening the package, I liked the color combinations of pinks and reds representing the red strawberry fruit, with the green representing the leaf. I didn’t smell much from the candy, but was optimistic. The shape and look of the candy was just like a typical Peanut M&M, with a little extra pizazz because of the colors. The flavor though, was severely lacking. If I didn’t know this was a different flavor, I honestly don’t think I would have even recognized anything was different.

If you are actually searching for the strawberry flavor, I guess you can say there is a very tiny pop of it. It only lasts for a brief moment and I kept wondering if I was even actually tasting it, or if it was because I wanted to find that flavor. I think this would have worked better if it was a Peanut Butter M&M with a strawberry flavor, because the chocolate tends to overpower many flavors and the peanut itself doesn’t leave much room for such a light flavor. I thought that the flavors of Peanut M&Ms in the “Vote For Your Favorite Peanut Contest” all had a noticeable distinction though. Even the Honey Nut, which was the “lightest” of those flavors, had enough of a distinct taste to notice a difference. This strawberry nut was so disappointing though and really needed a lot more flavoring.

So, overall, I would not highly recommend these. They aren’t bad in the sense that they taste like a yummy Peanut M&M, but there isn’t anything impressive or overly noticeable. I’ve still noticed the winner of the contest, Coffee Nut (which was my least favorite), but I do still appreciate the different versions of my personal favorite M&M variety, peanut. The strawberry and peanut combo could really be yummy though if it were to become a PB&J sort of flavor, so I would love another attempt at this blend of tastes.
