Glittery Animal Jars

You have probably seen this project before, especially given the mason jar craze. I think this idea is so cute and clever though, and decided to try it myself! My version includes a splash of glitter along the rim of the jar, which allows for a nice way to add some more color and variety to the jars!

What You’ll Need:
• Small animal plastic figurines
• Mason jars (any size)
• Spray paint (any color)
• Mod Podge
• Glitter (fine or extra fine)
• Super glue
• Glue (preferably tacky glue)
• Paint brush

Directions:

1. Clean mason jars and choose what figurines you want to use.

2. Unscrew the lids of the jars so that the two parts are separate. Use the super glue to place a small line around the inside rim. Place the top piece inside so that the two parts are now secured together. Allow time to dry.

3. Using super glue again, attach the figurines wanted onto the lid. Allow to dry once more.

4. In a safe area, prepare the spray paint. Carefully spray a smooth coat over the lid and figurine. Depending on the paint, an additional coat may be needed.

5. Once the spray paint is completely dry, prepare an area to use the glitter. Using a brush, apply a coat of glue on the rim. Immediately follow by pouring and shaking glitter all over the glue.

6. Tap excess glitter off the lid. Allow time to dry.

7. To keep the glitter secure, brush a layer of Mod Podge over the dried glitter.

For my jars, I made a pink and silver version.

Here are some photos of the final product:

After finishing up the project, my main note of caution is to maybe purchase a higher-quality spray paint. For the pink jars I used a paint I purchased from Walmart for a couple of dollars. I made these jars first, and although they turned out nice enough, the paint was bit more bubbly and did not dry as well as I was hoping. That made it harder when putting on any additional coats of the paint.

For the silver jars, I bought the spray paint at Home Depot for about $5. For those few more dollars the quality was noticeable as soon as I started to spray. The paint went on much more smoothly and dried perfectly.

I have not found a use for all of my jars yet, but I did give a few away as gifts. I also currently use one to store my fortunes from fortune cookies over the years. The rest are sitting on my bookshelf right now, looking quite nice in all their prehistoric glitter glory. I think they will be perfect to store little doodads, spare change, or art supplies!

Up next, I have a fun project I made to match the silver jars.
