Magic Monster Rocks

I hadn't painted a rock since I was a child, when I turned a normal, gray stone into a bright red ladybug. It is sort of magical how you can take a rounded object from nature and turn it into a colorful piece of art. That is why I called these rocks Magical Monster Rocks! This craft is a wonderful way to use your creativity, pass a summer afternoon away, and even use up some left-over craft supplies! Using a bit of glitter glue or paint makes these guys even more magical. You don't need to make a monster, but here is what I put together one afternoon.

What You’ll Need:

• Rocks (purchased or found outdoors)
• Mod Podge
• Glitter glue (a glitter glaze/paint will also work)
• Glue (preferably tacky glue)
• Googly eyes (various sizes)
• Acrylic paint
• Brush

Directions:
1. Clean and dry the rocks.

2. Use different acrylic paint colors to cover the rocks completely. This may require a few coats depending on the type of rock. Let the rocks dry.

3. Brush glitter glue generously over the rocks until the desired result is reached. Let the rocks dry.

4. With a small paint brush, paint mouths, tongues, teeth or any other facial features using acrylic paint.

5. Once dried, apply a coat of Mod Podge to provide a clear protective coat.

6. Glue googly eyes securely. Diversify the number of eyes used on each to create more monster styles.

Here are some photos of the final product:

After finishing these guys, I placed them in a row on my bookshelf. They make me smile whenever I see them. They would also be a great item to place in a garden or a planter!
