I was at Walmart last week and was surprised to find so many new snacks that I hadn’t heard about yet. It was a bit funny because in the days after I saw and picked up a few of the items I found, I started to see the products on commercials and ads. So while I felt a bit ahead of the game, it wasn’t for long. I picked up four items, but did pass on a few other treats I saw and was interested in. There were Dunkin' Donuts coffee-themed Pop-Tarts, but the box was so big, I knew I would never be able to eat them all since I didn’t have anyone to really share them with. The same thing happened to me with the Orange Crush and A&W Root Beer Pop-Tarts that came out last year. At first the packages were too large and I knew it would go to waste, but I have started seeing normal-sized boxes, but just haven’t been that into trying them anymore.
I also found Keebler Limited Batch Cinnamon Roll Fudge Stripes, which was very big for me to pass on. I have reviewed a Limited Batch flavors before, and consider Fudge Stripes (along with Oreos) my main two “snack food” favorites that I am always excited to see what new flavors come out. I’m also a big cinnamon lover, but with all the cinnamon-flavored treats out there now and over the years, I just wasn’t excited for them. I figured I would only eat a few, and then the rest might go to waste. Sometimes I wish there were clubs where everybody brought the newest snacks and you could taste them all, without having to buy them all and potentially wasting it. So those few items were hard to pass up, but here is what I did end up picking up!
Kellog’s Cinnamon Frosted Flakes:
Being a fan of cinnamon, I figured I would really like these, and I did. Frosted Flakes are a pretty reliable cereal for me, in the sense that they aren’t my favorite, but I always like it when I have it. These tasted like a blend of cinnamon and the “frosted” part of regular Frosted Flakes. So it almost felt like cinnamon vanilla. They were a more toasted color than regular frosted flakes, because of the cinnamon, and overall have a great taste and crunch. I also liked that while they are certainly cinnamon-y, they don’t leave the bowl absolutely filled with cinnamon remnants like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal does. I would re-buy these again!
In this photo, I had moved closer to a window to get better natural light, and my dog came into my shot and slowly took the Frosted Flake from my hand. :) Here is his nose as he arrived.
Honey Maid Vanilla Graham Crackers:
For me, graham crackers tend to be fit the bill when I don’t know what to have or what I want for a snack. They are just good to have around for a little something. We tend to usually have a box of the honey flavor around, and I especially like them with a bit of peanut butter on top. When I saw this new vanilla-flavored version, I was curious. I wondered if the vanilla would come through very much and if they would be interesting at all. Firstly, I will say that they did not break along the lines well at all, but I guess that isn’t overly important. I was surprised at the sugary crystals at the top of the cracker, which reminded me a bit of the cinnamon ones (which can get a bit too messy with all the stuff on them). When I tasted them though, I was pleased. The vanilla flavor does come through quite well, almost like a warm toasted vanilla. I was impressed that it did actually taste pretty noticeable and different from other graham cracker flavors out there. They are pretty simple, but the flavor is there and the crunchy graham is there, making a good snack. While overall I don’t like them as much as the honey flavor, I would buy these again over the other graham crackers available (like chocolate, cinnamon, regular, etc.).
Nabisco Chocolate Strawberry Oreos:
I’ve tried quite a few of the limited Oreo flavors over the past few years, and my favorite one is still the brownie batter flavor. So, when I spotted these, I was excited. While I have liked most of the flavors I have tried, I prefer when the cookie itself is the traditional chocolate wafter. If it is something else (like graham, golden Oreo, etc.) I just don’t feel like it tastes very much like an Oreo. Sure, it might be a nice sandwich cookie, but without the chocolate wafer, I don’t get the Oreo flavor my taste buds hope for. So this chocolate strawberry version seemed perfect for me. The wafter is chocolate and the cream is chocolate with a small circle of pink strawberry in the center. I wasn’t confident that the strawberry would really pop, so I was curious if it would resemble a chocolate covered strawberry very much (which is what the photo of the package shows). When I ate it though, I definitely tasted the strawberry. It is obviously a fake strawberry taste, but it is much more noticeable than you might expect. I found though that the more you eat, the strawberry flavor slowly disappears a bit because there is much less of it compared to the chocolate flavors that surround it. I quite enjoyed the chocolate flavor (it was less fudgy than the brownie batter Oreos I loved) and thought the flavor combo was as good as it could really be. These probably won’t “wow” anybody, but I would put these in my personal top favorites of the limited flavors.
Milka Oreo Chocolate Candy Bar:
This candy bar I had heard of before going to Walmart, because it was specifically why I wanted to go to Walmart that day. My favorite candy bar ever is an Oreo Cadbury bar that I have had from England. Hershey’s Cookies and Cream bars have been my favorite American chocolate bar ever since I was a kid, so being a big Oreo fan, it was immediately right up my alley. Not to mention that Cadbury chocolate is so creamy and delicious. So during the few times I have been able to have the Cadbury Oreo bar, I get bummed that I can’t buy it in America (my cousin traveled to England this past fall and I requested her to bring me back one of those bars and I savored it thinking I wouldn’t get another one for quite a while). So when I read the news about these Milka bars coming to the States, I couldn’t believe it. It looked very similar to my beloved Cadbury bar, including the creamy white cookie center, so I knew I had to try it to see how it compared.
The Cadbury Bar
After my first bite, I was in love! It honestly tasted very much the same to the Cadbury bar that I love. The chocolate was so creamy and the Oreo center was both soft and a bit crunchy. There’s not much to say but that I hope this bar stays in America, and that more stores start to get it (from my understanding, Walmart is the only place that sells it currently). This is my new favorite chocolate bar for sure. Besides this regular-sized bar, there is also a large “big crunch bar," which is more layered with chocolate, white cream, Oreo, white cream, and chocolate again. I didn’t get that bar, but I doubt it tastes too different from this, and it is almost $4 a bar (this one was $1.50). As for this bar, I slowly savored it throughout a week by eating a few squares each day. I might need to get another one soon…
