2016 Winter Decor

This past Christmas I shared how my mom and I decorated for the holidays. I mentioned that this year we were going to decorate for winter to add some cheer to our home after the sadness that comes when you take down your Christmas tree and other decorations. It is always a hard time once the holidays end and there isn’t too much to look forward to as winter officially arrives, but we were determined to add some joy.

Once Christmas items started going up in stores (which was pretty much in August…haha), we had our eye out for silver, white, and blue items that would fit a winter theme. We managed to find a pretty good selection, which was good because as Christmas started to get closer, there wasn’t much to choose from at all. During December, we painted pinecones my mom had with white paint, and some with some white or clear glitter. After Christmas we did manage to find a few extra items on clearance like some additional floral stems and accents, which helped us pull a few pieces together.

The day we took our Christmas decorations down, we put up our new items. It was fun to see what we had picked out, since we had just placed them in a few bags as we slowly bought stuff and didn’t really ever look at it all together. We used a few items from our Christmas things that worked for winter as well, and  once it as all up, it looked like a mini winter wonderland! It really has been nice to have some festive touches for the season. The silvers and whites are really beautiful, especially at night when we can put on a few candles and turn on our string lights. The lights are one of my favorite parts, but I also love the sparkly silvers and clear icicle-looking items. While I’m not overly fond of snow and winter conditions outside, having a warm and whimsical wintry scene inside made January much more bearable!

Here are a few photos of how we decorated!

Since the items were found over time and at quite a few shops, I can’t really link any items to where you can find them. The variety of shops we went to though included Home Goods, Gordmans, Michaels, Joann’s Fabrics, Pier One Imports, Hobby Lobby, and Kirklands. For us, we really try to look for deals, use coupons, and try out a variety of shops to see the range of prices, which really helps to get more items at better prices. One of my favorite items we found was the sparkly gem snowflake pillow! It came from Pier One Imports after Christmas and was 50% off (making it $15 instead of $30). I also really love the snowflake and vintage flower string lights. I bought those in November at Hobby Lobby, making two trips to use a 40% off coupon for each. What I especially like about the flower ones are that they can be used during any season.

Anything with the little critters like the deer, penguin, or hedgehog are also so cute. My favorite is the little feathery hedgehog, which we bought a while ago at a local craft shop. Finally, the tree with ornaments is something my mom and I love to decorate throughout the year. She picked up the tree at a craft show, and because it was the end of the day, my mom was sold it for a great price. We have been using it for a few years now, and enjoy finding special ornaments to accent it and celebrate different holidays. I especially love the snowflakes on it this year.

Here are links to a few items I talked about in previous posts that can be seen in these winter decor photos:
