I tried the new Limited Edition Strawberry Peanut M&M’s a few days ago, and now I’m back with the new Caramel M&M’s. I didn’t have super high hopes for these after my disappointment with the Strawberry ones. For the most part, I really like caramel and chocolate together, but tend to find it a bit boring. Since I usually only try candy that is new to me, or sounds really unique, I don’t often have caramel and chocolate candies since there isn’t much of a difference in what is available.
I was mostly curious to see how much caramel was inside the candies and what the consistency of the caramel would be. As I opened up the package, I could see that these were significantly bigger than a regular M&M. They were about the same size as the Peanut M&Ms, but just a little bumpier on the outside texture.
The colors of the candies were the same as a regular pack of M&M’s (my favorites are the green and yellow!). They smelled good, and it felt promising that there were little noticeable differences.
At first taste, I knew these were a winner for me. What I liked about these was the large amount of caramel inside, making for a really nice caramel taste. The caramel, chocolate, and candy coating worked really well together. I guess that candy coating could have been a bit weird with the caramel, but I think that aspect is what makes them different from other caramel candies. That little crunch M&M’s have made for a sticky and crunchy mix that was very yummy.
Speaking of the stickiness, some caramel candies (like Caramel Creams, Sugar Babies, Caramel Apple Pops, Turtles, etc.) can be too sticky, where there easily comes a point where it becomes miserable to eat because the caramel gets stuck in your teeth. The caramel was solid and chewy, not creamy and light, but I didn’t have any stuck in my teeth after having a few.
I honestly really enjoyed these and would definitely have them again. My mom said these are now her favorite M&M’s she has tried (but caramel is her favorite candy, so she may be a bit biased). Besides just eating them alone, these would be great to try in cookies, put into popcorn, or sprinkled on top of a pan of marshmallow treats. These don’t appear to be limited edition, so I can see these joining the main M&M lineup. For me, I would personally rank these second to the regular Peanut M&M’s, but above plain, crispy, peanut butter, and the other varieties that are always available.
